Ordinary Municipal Elections for the Corporations of Hamilton and St. George’s will be held on May 11, 2023.

TUESDAY APRIL 25, 2023

Nominations for the Municipalities of St. George’s & Hamilton will be held together at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Hall, King Street, Hamilton. Nominations will be accepted from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

NOTICE OF PROPORTIONS

In accordance with section 18A of the Municipalities Act 1923, notice is hereby given that the proportion of business ratepayers’ Councillors to residents’ Councillors for the Corporation of Hamilton ordinary municipal election to be held on 11 May 2023 is as follows:

  1. Business Ratepayers’ Councillors - 4 seats
  2. Residents’ Councillors - 4 seats

In accordance with section 18A of the Municipalities Act 1923, notice is hereby given that the proportion of business ratepayers’ Councillors to residents’ Councillors for the Corporation of St. George’s ordinary municipal election to be held on 11 May 2023 is as follows:

  1. Business Ratepayers’ Councillors- 2 seats
  2. Municipal Residents’ Councillors- 6 seats

 

ADVANCED POLLING INFORMATION

THURSDAY, 4 MAY 2023 8:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.

Advanced polling will be held in TWO separate locations:

 

Corporation of Hamilton - will vote at the Seventh Day Adventist, Church Hall, King Street

 

Corporation of St. George, will vote at the Penno’s Wharf, Cruise Ship Terminal

 

Anyone who plans to travel to or from Bermuda on the polling day may vote in an advanced poll.

 

Requirements

  • Travellers are required to have valid photo identification and;
  • a hard copy of their confirmed/paid for travel documents, clearly showing the dates or of departure and returning (these copies will be retained by the Returning Officer, digital copies will not be accepted).

 

The voter will report directly to the polling station with the required documentation, where he will be issued a certificate to vote in advance from the returning officer at that time.

BUSINESS RATEPAYER REGISTRATION

In order to participate in a Municipal Election, Business Ratepayers are required to be registered on the ratepayers register.

Registration Forms

Business Ratepayer Registration Forms are available at the Parliamentary Registry on the 3rd Floor of the Craig Appin House. Business Ratepayer registration forms are not available online.  Completed application forms must be returned to the Parliamentary Registry along with all required documentation. We encourage all Business Ratepayers to register as soon as possible.

 

Eligibility for Registration as a Business Ratepayer 

A Business Ratepayer is eligible to register for a municipal election if:

  • he/she is a Sole Proprietor, Company Association, Partnership or Commercial Property owner within the Municipality
  • he/she is eligible to be charged rates within the respective Municipal Area
  • he/she is registered on the Parliamentary Register in another constituency outside of the Municipal Area for which he is eligible to be charged rates
  • the Company/Business is not a subsidiary of other Business Ratepayers, Exempted Companies and Exempted Partnerships

 

Voting as a Business Ratepayer

Each Business Ratepayer is entitled to one vote only. If a Business Ratepayer is also a resident of the Municipality, they must vote as a resident and nominate someone to cast their vote as a Business Ratepayer. 

 

Those who are already listed on the Business Ratepayers Register do not need to re-register unless changes need to be made to their existing details. Please check the Business Ratepayers Register to ensure your details are correct.
